A Few Observations of March and April 2001 By Roy D. Follendore III Copyright (c) 2001 by RDFollendoreIII
April 23, 2001 I just got back from driving to and from Memphis, Tennessee. The drive gave me lots of time to think. I got to see the changes of Spring from Winter as I drove South. As I arrived I got the first of the 2001 bugs splattered on my windshield. I knew it was Spring there. I got to walk in the woods hand in hand with my wife Julia. The trees in the South are all green and in a full bloom of light green leaves and the ground is buzzing with bees. Coming back to Virginia I saw Spring retreat. Here the trees are just coming out and the buds are flowering. It was an amazing experience and it gave me the feeling that no matter what business powers that be may thrust in my way on any given day, it is a poor second to Nature. If you have not been outside lately you owe it to yourself to take a walk and share it with your best friend. March 27, 2001 An article today said that Silicon Valley is being hit hard by the lack of investment. An investor was quoted as saying that his VC company was teaching the CEO's how to do more with less. What an utter foolish statement. Last year when tons of money are dumped into technology the VC firms like his were apparently teaching a completely different lesson. The people who are making money today are simply putting their money to work. Those venture capitalists who want to teach lessons should give up investing and become college professors. March 26, 2001 The British attempt to control the outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease shows how Governments fails to take a proper course of action until the situation is out of control. They then of course they overreacted by killing more animals than could be properly disposed of. They then want to make up for all of their failures by killing healthy animals. A terrorist act could not have been any more successful. March 25, 2001 Talented beautiful people talking about how wonderful they are under a giant icon, draped in clothes and jewels that the average person could never afford. Did anyone actually think that Julia Roberts would not get an Oscar? Hollywood serves and governs itself first above all others. The Academy Awards is a machine. |
