She had already had her bath and she had already put on her stockings and white blouse. Her lips were red. She was putting on her eye makeup in the bathroom mirror.  Their Mother was preparing to go to work and of course the children knew it.  Rebecca screwed up her lips and made her eyes squinty and mean looking at her younger brother David. David tried to return the gesture to his sister but he was only able to make a funny face and they both ended up laughing.  Daddy is in the computer room, and he knows that David and Rebecca are already tuning up.  Rebecca and David will give their mother a big kiss good by and they will cry because she is leaving.  When David tells her "I want to go wish you." it will break her heart.  She will pick him up.  "I will be home in just a few hours and I will tuck you in.  Your Father will take good care of you" says she.  Then David and Rebecca's Mother would have to leave for work, the children would become more upset and cry.  Daddy would get them a frozen Popsicle from the freezer and they will be happy watching their space cartoons and playing for a little while.

It will only be an hour or so later before Rebecca and David begin to ask Daddy when Mommy will be back.  "Is it time for Mommy to come home yet?" Rebecca will ask.  "No." "Not yet." says Daddy.  "I want Mommy." begins David.  "Why can't Mommy come home now?" Rebecca will ask.  "Mommy is at work and will be home soon." says Daddy.  "and she will be home in a few hours."  "Is she lost?" "I don't want Mommy lost." "No, your Mother is not lost, she is just at work."  "I want Mommy home." The crying is about to begin and Daddy knows that no amount of talking can make his two beautiful children miss their Mother any less.  Daddy was sad for them.  Their Mother had said it was a phase that all children go though.  Unlike Daddies, Mothers seem to know all about those kinds of things.

This particular day, Daddy has an idea.  After he had finally settled them down and just before their Mother was supposed to call home and while the Rebecca and David are playing, he makes an announcement.

"Mother may not be coming home any more because a space ship has picked up the car and swooped away with it."  David's eyes get big. Rebecca asks, "You mean that she is not going to come back any more."  "That is right, they took her off to another Galaxy." "What's a Galaxy?" asks David.  "It is up in the sky David." says Rebecca pointing up.  "She won't even be coming home on the weekend?" tunes up Rebecca.  "That's right."  "How do you know?" "It was on TV."  Everyone begins to cry.  Just then the phone rings and Daddy answers. "Well guess what children, your Mother wants to speak with you from outer space." said Daddy.  Rebecca got on the phone first.  "Daddy said that you were abducted by aliens." said Rebecca.  "No I wasn't, says Mother."  "It was just a bad joke that your Father played on you."  But the truth was that both of the children were so relieved that they did not worry about their mother for the rest of the night.  When Rebecca and David's Mother came home they were happy.

But the next day started out as usual.  "I don't want Mommy to go." said David.  "I don't want her too either." chimes in Rebecca.  Everyone gets upset and starts to cry again as their mother goes out the door.  A few minutes later the children were still crying when Daddy comes in with a new announcement.  "This time the aliens actually did come down and get your Mother's car while she was driving it and took her off to their Galaxy."  said Daddy.  Everyone instantly tuned up.  Through the tears David says "Na uh." and Rebecca says "No they didn't."  "Oh yes they did." says Daddy.  "Mommy says that there are no such thing as aliens." Said Rebecca. "Oh yes there are." says Daddy, "and I guess we won't be seeing her again."  "Na uh!" says David.  "She said she will come home on time."  Daddy told them all about the silver space ship that looked like a flying saucer.  "That's not true." said Rebecca.

"What do they look like?" questions Rebecca.  "Oh they are big." "How big?" says Rebecca.  "As big as a great big pig," says Daddy, "...and they look like pigs too!" he adds.  "You mean a giant pig got Mama!" yells David, his eye wide open. "Yes, a giant alien that looks like a pig." says Daddy.  "There are no giant pigs from outer space!" shouts Rebecca.  "Oh, yes there are, but they aren't just like normal pigs, they also look like ants."  "They are Giant PigAnts from Outer Space!" declares Daddy.

Both of the children stayed awake and saw their Mother come home. They both asked  about the "Giant PigAnts."  "There is no such thing as Giant PigAnts from outer space."  said their Mother.  "Your Daddy has just been pulling your leg." David looked down at his leg. Rebecca laughed and said to her brother, "No David not your leg.  Daddy was telling a story." They both laughed nervously but when their Mother tucked them in they went right to sleep.

Over the next few days every time that Rebecca and David would get upset about their mother going to work, Daddy would tell the story about the Giant PigAnts.  The story kept getting bigger and bigger, but every single day Rebecca and David's Mommy would come home exactly on time.  Pretty soon the children did not worry about aliens from outer space getting their Mother.  From then on they were both happy and they did not worry that she would get lost because if Giant PigAnts from outer space could not make her not come home, nothing could.

And that is the truth!
