Ignorant Nuclear WarfareBy Roy D. Follendore III Copyright (c) 2002 by RDFollendoreIII May 31, 2002 Poor ignorant India and Pakistan please give us all a break. Do not go to war. You are some of the most populated countries on the planet and you are actually threatening each other with nuclear weapons. Do either of you actually want to invade a nuclear wasteland? Has anyone considered the manifest consequences of such a war? Think about it for a moment. If Pakistan were to even accidentally pop one tactical nuke high over India, it probably would not directly kill too many millions of people, but then the resulting electromagnetic pulse could make all of the electronics in the region shot to hell. Does anyone really want to think about what India will do in response? You people who are stock market analysts and investors out there pay close attention to this next part. What do you think that would do to the American commerce? In the hype of globalized EBusiness, American businesses have been systematically turning over a vast amount of sensitive data processing infrastructure work into India over the past few years. For some reason, American business executives seemed to think that just because services in India were cheaper, it was also competitive and safe, just like America. Well now these guys might be willing to acknowledge that there always was a difference. (Just do not say you didn't know.) Ross Perot tried to tell this everyone that EBusiness is a far more complex subject than these half wit executives and their paid spin control consultants have been giving witness to. Has any of these Executive MBA folks ever heard of that little seven letter word "culture" ? It should be obvious that these business investment types are way out of their league when it comes to that word. India and Pakistan were never stable regions of the world and it is not because they are not educated people. We needed to learn that just because a country has nuclear and computer technology does not mean that it is not a third world country. Countries like these will remain third world countries at each others throats as long as their cultures support endemic over population, ignorance, and poverty. Things can never change there without a major religious and cultural consequences. To put it in a nutshell, things there can not easily change and some nasty events are bound to take place if they do. Is this the kind of place where American businesses want to invest? I don't think so. If not, then we had better start looking over the value of American corporations who are heavily leveraged over there. American companies who have remained invested in America might be seen as a much more solid investment opportunity.
