That is what we are...

New and old viral diseases are spreading among ourselves and our food animals, bacteria is becoming resistant, deep water sharks are appearing more often at our shorelines, whales deliberately beach themselves to die, the currents of our Oceans begin to change change, barrier reefs around the earth begin to die and turn white, ice shelves the size of Delaware break off in the Antarctic, the earths gravity increases at the equator, record temperatures occur everywhere, huge holes in our atmosphere appear, dormant volcanoes suddenly explode, earthquakes appear to systematically resonant around the world, huge ejections of mass from the sun take place, the aurora borealis is seen as far south as Texas, hundred thousand year old glaciers disappear, an asteroid suddenly appears just missing our earth while one far larger is detected and coming our way, meanwhile we discover that a black hole is absorbing our Galaxy, all the while another Galaxy is on a collision course.

What do all of these things have in common?

At least part of the answer to this question is simple.   In our minds eye, the complexity of everything from the macro to the micro is becoming easier to sum up in terms of a convergence.  Our minds know that we are mortal so we run the tape forward, bringing in every possible scenario.  We plug in our dreads of personal doom.  Only then are we able to properly combine the appropriate level of religious superstition and ignorance.

In the end it makes no difference if all of the events we hear are connected or independent processes because a potential convergence of doom can take place systematically or independently.  Mankind is better able to acquire information through technology but what we choose determines our future.  Our minds exist to allow us to not only make choices, but to create new ones.  Mankind makes alternatives and we change the otherwise inevitable.

That is what what we are.
