Writing From Scratch

As you may can tell, some of the Issue that I write about become short essays.  I write from scratch as I think, so I can't always know when a given story will expand or when one will be easily completed with just a few sentences.  I suppose that if I had a column  in a newspaper I would be given a set number of inches which I could fill up.  One nice feature about doing journalism through ones own website is that length becomes no issue.  I am not sure if the length of my Issues have to do with the fact that I have more to say or the fact that I feel more about the issues that I write about.  Maybe it has to do with he fact that some issues are far more complicated than others and I just have more difficulty in putting my words down in a way that says something significant about the subject.

I don't think I am getting better at writing.  I just think that I am getting more trusting that I can write.  Writing is a very long term commitment for both the reader as well as the writer.  I hope that one or two of you out there enjoy what you have been reading.  I don't ask you to agree, just think.  Like you, since I like to think, I too reserve the right to change my perspective from time to time.
